What is the Project?
The Policy Map Project began with a pilotlaunch at the end of 2024, with a full rollout planned for 2025. Its goal is to create a dynamic, evolving database that consolidates energy and climate policies from European countries, with a special focus on youth-related policies, initiatives, and best practice examples. The project will evolve over time, continuously updating as new policies emerge and existing ones change. The resulting database aims to serve as a resource for policymakers, youth organisations, and the public, enabling cross-border collaboration and the sharing of successful policy practices.
The Policy Map Project was conceptualised as a project of YES-Europe, aiming to engage the young people representing YES-Europe in their Local Country Teams, to delve into the climate and energy policies and the main factors shaping them within their national contexts. At the same time, recognising a need for centralised, accessible information on national climate policies, which will be dynamically updated and available to everyone, the project aspires to provide the “go to” place for anyone interested to see or even compare the development of the European countries’ climate and energy policies through the years.
The project will be built upon the work of local YES-Europe teams across, who will gather and report key legislative texts, regulations and strategies on energy and climate action. The emphasis on neutrality ensures that the project will provide an unbiased presentation of each country’s policy framework. The goal is not to achieve immediate completeness but rather to offer a growing and adaptable resource that remains relevant as policies evolve. The emphasis on best practices will allow youth organisations in different countries to learn from each other and promote effective policy implementation.
What are the Policy Map Project‘s prospective outcomes?
The Policy Map Project aims to produce a dynamic, pan-European resource that provides high-quality, up-to-date information on national energy and climate policies, particularly those related to youth and participatory channels. The Map will serve as a reference point for understanding how countries are engaging young people in their climate transition goals and the types of participatory opportunities available for youth advocacy.
The Map is expected to grow and evolve over time, expanding from an initial set of countries and policies to a more comprehensive database that tracks policy changes and new initiatives across Europe. This Project also holds significant potential for replication beyond Europe, as regional youth organisations globally could adapt this framework to their own contexts.
By fostering cross-border collaboration and best practice sharing, the Policy Map Project will provide a platform for youth organisations to advocate for effective policies and for countries to learn from successful policy models elsewhere. It will also raise the visibility of YES-Europe as a key player in the field of youth engagement in climate policy, helping bridge the gap between policymakers and young people.
